Persian Rescue update September
2007
Persian Rescue moved at the beginning of
this year to a more suitable place still in
Persian Rescue Bristol has now been opened
just over three and a half years. Last year we re-homed
57 cats. To date we have re-homed 24 so far this year.
We are constantly full with a number of
cats waiting to come into the rescue. The majority of cats that we take in are
from genuine situations, such as marriage split ups, bereavements within the
family, and people moving abroad. We also take in cruelty and neglect cases, as
well as cats abandoned. We continue to rescue and re-home across much of
Over this year we have had an increasing
number of phone calls for advice on Persians with behavioral problems, which we
always try to help the owner work through whenever we can. Sometimes this is
not possible due to other circumstances, in which case we take the cat in if
the owner wants us to. In these situations we would work through the behavioral
problem with the cat before considering it for re-homing.
In some situations a rescued Persian may
not be suitable for re-homing due to health reasons, these we have taken into
our own home where they will stay.
On the fundraising front we have attended
local cat shows, where we sell Persian Rescue items and other cat products to help
raise much needed funds. We enjoy going to the cat shows as this gives us the
opportunity to talk to breeders and other cat fanciers about what we are doing.
In addition we have been invited to other animal support group event, which
also helps us to raise funds, and talk to people about Persian Rescue
Once again big thank you to Angela Burt
our assistant fund raiser, who has raised a lot of money by making and selling
cat nip cushions, also attending cat shows and baking delicious cakes to sell
at the shows. The money raised is used towards paying for veterinary bills and
equipment.
A big thank you to Lesley & Les Mcmahon of National Animal Sanctuaries Support League
Bristol, they help us with food, bedding and lots of support.
We would like to thank Lynn & Andrew
Nichols who have been supporters of Persian Rescue since we opened, helping
with fundraising, donations, and much moral support.
A big thank you to all the people who have given donations to us with
food, bedding, cat litter and money.
Finally we would like to thank our Vet
Mark Astbury for his continued support of Persian
Rescue, without his help it would be difficult for us to continue with the
amount of cats that pass through our rescue. Every cat leaves us fully
vaccinated, health checked, Frontline flea treated, and wormed. In addition any
cat that needs a dental, coat de-matting or any other treatment is always
carried out before re-homing
An update on the Blue brother and sister
aged three who were in a terrible state and absolutely terrified of being
touched. After several months of love and patience we won them around to
trusting us. After a total of six months we were able to re-home them together
to a wonderful caring couple, where they have been there for nearly two years
now, they are settled in really well and have continued to blossom. They keep
in contact with us on their progress on a regular basis.
There have been other cruelty cases that
have also settled into their new homes and continued to restore their faith in
people with their new owners love and care.
We get a lot of feedback from our new
homes by way of letters, emails, phone calls and pictures. It is lovely to keep
in touch and hear how the cats are getting on in their new homes. This makes it
all worthwhile for us. Thank you to those that have kept in touch.
Since we opened in May 2004 we have met
lots of lovely people who have given homes to rescued Persians, with their help
we are able to continue with rescuing and re-homing.
Finally a big thank you to everybody who
has helped Persian Rescue in anyway, your support is very much appreciated.
Take care & best wishes.
Isabel & Keith
